About Ben

Ben Kraal is a design researcher, car nerd and avid hat wearer.

Ben’s research investigates how people do things with stuff or, if you prefer, stuff with things. Those things and stuff have included speech recognition software, the work of the Magistrates Court of the ACT, nurses use of compression therapy for the treatment of leg ulcers, stethoscopes and their use in anaesthetic pre-admission clinics, and various aspects of passenger experience in domestic and international airports. From time-to-time Ben also works with screen-based artefacts.

Ben’s car-nerdism takes many forms. Since obtaining his driver’s licence Ben has owned: a 1969 MGB, a 1982 Mazda RX-7, a 1994 Peugeot 405 Mi16, a 1968 Mazda 1500, a 1976 Renault 16TS, a 1980 Mazda RX-7 and a 1975 Saab 99 EMS. As you can see, he has weird taste. Ben also maintains the Brown Car Blog, a blog which contains pictures of cars of a particular hue but which is not about colour.

Ben is currently between hats has a new hat.
