Buzz Andersen (via Jack Cheng) says that the Muji Chronotebook is an example of “worse is better” (also at wiki).
But perhaps it’s also an example of the “don’t” perspective that I posited earlier.
From this perspective the Chronotebook seems to recognise that when using a diary to plan your day, you tend not to care about the super-fine-grained detail that a diary (or piece of software) often requires. So, in this case you can use the Chronotebook to express the idea that you’ll work on, say, your National Ethics Application Form in the morning from 9 to 12-ish and then draft that journal paper you promised your boss from around 2 till 5-ish.
Perhaps I’m drawing a long bow on this. But I think this is getting closer to expressing my ideas about don’t software.
